Event Description:
A Community Read of William Shakespeare's Star Wars, Inspired by the work of George Lucas and William Shakespeare held at the Santa Barbara Public Library. The event helped promoted community involvement with the library and literacy. Audience members participate in reading the play aloud. There were be props, silliness, and a costume contest. Legion members were on hand to help add atmosphere and photo opportunities. This event was part of a grant of $20,000 to host the NEA Big Read. An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. SBPL is one of 75 nonprofit organizations to receive an NEA Big Read grant to host a community reading program between September 2017 and June 2018.
